An ECW faction in TNA?

Ok i must preface this by informing you that this is strictly a rumour, this has not been confirmed or indicated by any sources either within TNA Wrestling or anywhere else, but thought i’d post some interesting little tidbits, please consider the following:

  • TNA has booked the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA for a show on September 24th, 2010.
  • Taz, RVD, the Dudleys, Stevie Richards, Raven and Mick Foley are all on the Roster already.
  • Tommy Dreamer is reportedly in talks right now with TNA Management
  • Sabu asked fans on his Facebook fan page what they’d think of him going to TNA
  • The consulting firm TNA hired to conduct a review of the product and whose report ultimately was used as justification for a move back to Thursday nights did highlight in said report that one of the most popular suggestions with the 18-35 year old male demographic (which TNA are trying to target right now with WWE’s move to PG) was that of an ECW stable in TNA along with an increase prescence of Hardcore wrestling and probably an addition of a Hardcore Championship aswell.

This would seem to me to indicate that an ECW stable or at least a greater ECW prescence is on the cards. WWE’s move to PG meant the WWE-ECW brand went the way of the dodo but this move has proved unpopular with some of those fans and i guess Bischoff and co may see this as an opportunity to capitalise on that and bring across some disenchanted WWE viewers to the TNA product.

Now remember back, they already did this during the initial wave of ECW mania and had Team Xtreme in TNA with the likes of Justin Credible, Sandman and Perry Saturn in its ranks and it failed – MISERABLY. But perhaps that was also down to TNA’s low profile at the time as well as the fact that the key players in ECW’s history such as RVD, Taz, Dreamer, Heyman et all were not involved giving it a lack of credibility (see WCW invasion for another example).

However i don’t for a minute believe Paul Heyman is interested in working in TNA nor for that matter alongside any of Bischoff, Hogan or Vince Russo. Last i heard he and Todd Gordon were putting the wheels in motion for a possible new promotion of their own.

So with that in mind, who would lead this ECW stable? Dreamer or Taz would be natural’s considering their close ties with the originally ECW product and their mic skills, the Sinister Minister James Mitchell (who already has worked for TNA on a number of occasions) would also spring to mind as a possible candidate.

Anyway, what do you think of this as a possibility? Would you be interested in this as a wrestling fan and TNA viewer or has this all been done before? Drop me a mail at or alternatively you can type away in the comments section below this article.
