UK Wrestling Ratings – The Facts

Ok, promised you guys a few weeks ago i’d look into the TNA ratings not just for impact but for Xplosion aswell. TNA’s recent ratings success in the UK since the Hogan-Bischoff era began has been much publicized with figures of 190% increase in viewership for impact being bandied about.

I’ve managed to obtain the ratings figures for Impact, Xplosion and Pay-Per Views for 2010 along with the same for WWE’s Raw and Smackdown shows from the BARB (Broadcasters Audience Research Board) and have put them together in a neat little table for your perusal. I must point out a few things though. The figures BARB provide are simply the top 10 for each channel, on weeks where a show ranked outside of the top 10 i put the “less than” prefix and the figure for the show in 10th place as the show in question had to garner a rating less than this figure. Weeks ending February 21st and March 14th there were no data provided for programming on Sky Sports 3.

Things certainly look good for TNA with Impact being regularly competitive with WWE’s flagship Raw and Smackdown offerings. Though i suspect TNA should be worried about last week, Impact falling out of the top 10 rated programs on Bravo with less than 48,000 viewers. See below for Impact vs Raw comparison:

Must point out that on weeks were no data is available the show had a value of 0, thats why RAW looks like it fell off the face of the earth for two of those weeks! Also when a show ranked outside the top 10 for their channel i assigned the maximum rating they could have had outside the top 10, i.e. same figure as tenth ranked show that week on that channel.

Looking at the Impact vs Raw comparison its shocking to see just how well impact has fared. By my count impact has 10 ratings wins to Raw’s 8, including an impressive seven week win streak from mid-february through to the end of march, it appears the wrestling war is well and truly on here in the UK, perhaps its time for both countries to sit up and take notice!
