“Smoke and Mirrors“

Saturday 05/06/2010 @ 9pm on Bravo. Originally aired Thursday 03/06/2010 on SPIKE!

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz

We open with a superb video package, looking back at the recent actions of Mr. Anderson and Sting

Mike Tenay welcomes us to the show and hypes up the main event of Slammiversary. Tonight we’ll se Styles, Kazarian and Lethal do battle in a Three Way match. But before all of that, here comes the Stinger!

I’m really digging this Sting angle at the moment, am i the only one?  Everyone seems to hate the idea of sting as a heel, and hey i’m not gonna argue, sting is a legend he will never become an effect heel people will cheer him no matter what but the key to this storyline is that Sting is actually NOT THE HEEL!!!

I really think its gonna be a major swerve. Look at the little hints that hes been dropping, hes said hes committed to TNA and the battle is between him and hogan not him and TNA. The guys he’s been beating up – Hogan, RVD, Hardy, Anderson et all have been part of the new influx since the hogan/bischoff era. Whilst Styles and Joe et all have remained untouched. The only guy steeped in TNA tradition that he attacked is Jeff Jarrett. And about Jarrett he said he was “no better than THOSE GUYS”. Hogan also muttered to Bischoff last week that Sting needs to “disappear….and fast”

Everywhere Hogan’s went he’s surrounded himself with talent from outside, from up north and his buddies. Is Sting simply preventing him from doing so in TNA? I think their presenting Sting as the heel, ala the NWO days when people weren’t entirely sure what side Sting was on, russo has said many times he likes a shade of grey – in other words faces dont have to act like the typical babyface, theres no reason why they can’t do heelish things. But ultimately i think its going to be a big swerve and Hogan and co will be the heel group with Sting as the figurative “angel of justice” or what have you. Maybe i’m reading too much into this but nonetheless its got me interested, congratulations Mr. Russo!

Anyway back to the show, Stinger is in the ring and he has a mic.  Sting says not everything’s as it seems and there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors going on, as if everything’s got a little Hollywood. What is black is really white and what is white is really black. If you’ve followed Sting’s career you’d know Sting’s been in this place before. His name and reputation is all on the line. He doesn’t really believe he owes an explanation. The meanings of his actions will be known soon enough. He hypes up Slammiversary. He says there’s gonna be change. RVD and he don’t know each other well, but Rob’s in the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s going to take the belt at Slammiversary. Everyone’s true colors will be exposed. A video on the tron plays of Sting attacking Jarrett, RVD and Bischoff.

Here comes Bischoff. He says to put the spotlight on Sting so they can see him for what he really is. He says Sting talks about smoke and mirrors and true colors. He thinks they just saw his true colors. It hurts him to say he’s not the man he thought he knew. He thinks Sting has been trying to convince people that he’s a superhero to the point where he believes he is one. But he’s a fraud. He’s not being honest. Superhero’s don’t use baseball bats or put there hands on the throats of women. Whatever issues he has, they’re his problems, not TNA’s. He has no idea why he (Bischoff) or Hogan are his problem. Hogan and Bischoff put the fans first, and they’ll continue it tonight. Tonight, his match is going to start right now. His opponent… Loud “Joe Is Gonna Kill You Chant”. Sting turns around and it’s Samoa Joe! (Who my fiance’ proceeds to call “Samo-mo Joe” lol!

Match 1: Sting vs Samoa Joe

  • Erm, main event caliber match to open the show?? I aint complaining!
  • Joe attacks Sting immediately and starts beating him in the corner.
  • Matt Morgan comes out and attacks Joe from behind. He starts choking Joe with his boot.
  • He and Morgan double team him.
  • Here comes the champ.
  • RVD ducks a Morgan clothesline and hits him with a spin kick.
  • He hits Morgan with a kick off the top. Bischoff grabs a mic and says this isn’t over.
  • He says the match is going to continue later on tonight.
  • In tag team action it’ll be Samoa Joe and RVD vs Sting and Matt Morgan.
  • Rob grabs a mic and says to hold on.
  • He says that Bischoff should make it a Four Way.
  • Eric says he agrees, but that he doesn’t have that authority to make it happen. Wait, so he can book singles and tag matches but not four ways? IS THIS WCW OR WHAT???
  • He says he’ll talk to Hogan but wait, have no fear, for the Hulkster is here.
  • Hogan says since RVD won the title, he’s raised the bar dude.
  • Lmao at the fans chanting “Brother!” at the end of every sentence hogan speaks
  • No disrespect to RVD, but right now the Whole F’N Show is out there, and since he’s the champ, he gets some stroke. That being what it is, he’s got his way. Wow nice main event if you ask me, but is this a title match or what? Noone seems to have addressed that, guess its going to be non-title then

We go to commercial break

As we return we are greeted with the following superb interviews with TNA stars regarding the upcoming Maximum Impact Tour 2011. Great that TNA are thinking of the fans here and hyping the tour.

Christy Hemme’s in the back with AJ. AJ says he’s pissed off about the Three Way and that he just found out. AJ tells Flair he just found out. Kaz comes in and thanks Flair for all the faith he’s had in him. Kaz says he’s going to make him proud. Flair says he’s going to be looking good tonight and Jay’s going to be looking bad. Kaz thanks Flair for the watch as they walk off. Styles looks pissed.

Match 1: Rosie Lottalove vs Roxxi

    • Not liking Betsy Ruths new gimmick as Rosie Lottalove, too comical if you ask me. Would much rather have seen her as an Awesome Kong-esque undefeatable given her size.
    • We get a recap of Rosey injuring Daffney. I hope they use that as part of a storyline when Daff gets back, would be a shame to waste it.
    • Roxxi with a headlock to start.
    • Rosey pushes out and just clobers Roxxi.
    • She does it again.
    • Slam to Roxxi.
    • Rosey sets her up in the corner.
    • Roxxi avoids the charge and hit’s the rights.
    • Discuss elbow by Roxxi, and she follows up with a dropkick.
    • Madison appears out of nowhere and hits Roxxi in the back with the belt, somehow oblivious to the ref.
    • Rosey goes for the pin and Roxxi rolls her up for the win!
    • Winner: Roxxi
    • Post match madison gets in the ring and starts yelling at Rosey.
    • Rosey hits her with a two handed chokeslam.
    • JB’s on the ramp with Rosey.
    • Rosey says the TBP think they can take out all the ugly girls one at a time.
    • She says she’s big, bad and certainly beautiful.
    • She say she’ll take TBP all out.
    • She kisses JB and walks off.
    • LOL the look on JB’s face was just priceless!

Tenay hypes up the three way match as we head to commercial break.

Match 2 : AJ Styles (w/ Ric Flair) vs Kazarian vs Jay Lethal

    • Styles gets out of the ring.
    • Lethal rolls up Kaz for a quick one.
    • Springboard crossbody by Lethal follows.
    • Hiptoss and he does the cartwheel but Styles cuts him off with a clothesline.
    • Lethal avoids a splash in the corner and Lethal follows up with the rights.
    • Lethal slides under the legs and hit’s the head scissors.
    • Lethal Combination coming up, but Kaz cuts him off with a dropkick.
    • Kaz and Styles start arguing.
    • Lethal hits Styles but Kaz slows him down.
    • Lethal counters a backsuplex and locks in a bulldog on Kaz and hits Styles with a clothesline.
    • Pin but only two. Styles backdrops Lethal on to the apron. Lethal slingshots in and Kaz hits him with a cutter on the way down.
    • Pin but only two.
    • Sidewalk slam backbreaker by AJ.
    • Kaz and AJ playing the game of can you top this.
    • Hiptoss/neckbreaker combo by Kazarian.
    • Lethal fights back. Dropkick to AJ.
    • AJ with the kip-up/hurricanrana move to Lethal.
    • They both go for a move on Lethal and they start arguing again.
    • Aj throws Lethal into the corner hard.
    • He says he’s going to springboard onto Lethal.
    • He goes for it and Kaz, nonchalant like, moves the ropes causing AJ to trip.
    • AJ starts yelling at Kaz.
    • Rollup by Lethal to AJ and it’s over.
    • Winner : Jay Lethal
    • Kaz and AJ keep arguing.
    • Ric says he gave AJ the gift of being Flair’s protégé, and yet he just got beat by Jay Lethal.
    • He says AJ has lost the world championship and he is confused.
    • He says AJ needs to go home and regroup, because he’s not in Flair’s good graces.
    • Styles looks shocked.
    • Flair tells him to find out what he wants to do, find out what he wants to be and get out of here.
    • When Ric Flair gives you that gift, you don’t drop the ball.
    • Styles leaves, all pissed off and such.
    • Flair tells him to go home and make a life decision.
    • Here comes Kurt Angle. He rises up the lift, appearing right behind AJ. Awesome, just awesome!
    • He stares right at AJ without saying anything.
    • AJ walks right around Angle to the back.
    • Angle makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.

We come back and Angle’s now in the ring. He says he came out to share Kazarian his proper respect before he makes him his first victim. Angle likes his opponent to know what he’s going to do to them before he does it. He says when he gave up his spot in the rankings, Kaz became #10. So at Slammiversary, it starts with Kaz. Kaz looks shocked. Flair says Angle just walked by him without saying how you doing champ. He says they have a lot of history, and it’s good. When he came to Angle when he was starting out, he said he wanted his son to be as good as Angle. He put his son on the phone with Angle when his son was 12 years old and told him to make him a man. He said no one in amateur wrestling has become as great as Angle. Today though, he doesn’t feel that Angle doesn’t understand as they’re not talking about amateur wrestling, they’re talking about professional wrestling. Flair is god in this world. He says he needs Shawn Michaels respect, Hulk Hogan respect, and Sting respect. He says he loves talking to Angle, but when he feels he gets that respect, hit it, just like AJ. He says it’s not amateur wrestling. He tells Angle to leave. Angle leaves and Flair tells him to come back, saying he has a better idea. He says Flair will leave first, and Angle will hold the ropes. Does this ever end well for the heels? He tells Angle to show the fans how much respect he has. Angle holds the ropes for Flair as he exits. Angle then charges Flair and tosses him off the ramp. Kaz attack Angle from behind, and then throws him back in the ring. Right hands by Angle, and Kaz bails out. Flair and Kaz look pissed.

To the hervey cam where we see Morgan in the back talking to Sting. He says the one thing Sting can trust about them is that they’ll do anything to win the world title. He says to let them go out there and act like a team. Sting walks off without uttering a word.

Tenay hypes up the main event.

We’re back and we see AJ flipping out in the back. AJ’s talking to himself, saying he’s the best in the world and that he has to kill Jay Lethal. He says he’s going to talk to Bischoff and demand to face Lethal at Slammiversary.

We get a video package of the recent happening of Mr. Anderson.

We’re back in the ring as Christy introduces Mr. Anderson, who apparently has an announcement about his opponent at Slammiversary. Anderson’s finisher is called the Mic Drop, I don’t know if it’s always been like that or that’s a recent change but I’m just throwing it out there. Anderson says he was looking forward to come out and have an interview with Christy where she asked a lot of hard hitting questions and uh… he starts starring at her boobs and he lifts her head up. She turns around and he stares at her ass. He says it doesn’t make him a shamanist or a pig, but asks if it makes him an asshole. She says it does. Anderson says all of the fans called him an asshole yet all of the fans are waiting for a wardrobe malfunction, so that makes all of the fans assholes. Loud “We Are Assholes” chant. Anderson says it’s going to be a censors nightmare. He then says at Slammiversary, Beer Money had blanks next to their names, so he stepped up to the plate. He says he can’t do it by himself, and that it ain’t a party without Jeffrey Nero Frickin’ Hardy! Hardy’s music plays and here he comes.

Jeff and Anderson bump fists in the ring. Loud “Hardy” chant. Hardy says that a lot of people are wondering why Hardy would team with Anderson. He’s the funniest asshole he ever met. Not only that, but out of all the guys in TNA, he’s the craziest SOB other than him (Hardy). All of the creatures of the night are invited to the match at Slammiversary, whatever that means. Anderson says he’s a cheap asshole, and it’s BYOB.

Here comes Beer Money. Roode says it’s cute, TNA’s newest BFF’s, and a very entertaining one at that. They have Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson. I see Roode can state the obvious. He asks what either one of them knows about tag team wrestling. Jeff may have had a cup of tea with his brother, but Matt apparently carried him the entire time, and they sucked anyways, so it doesn’t count. Roode says tag team wrestling isn’t about looking or being cool. It’s about much more than that, it’s about being like brothers. It’s about putting the ego’s aside and the team first. It’s obvious that Hardy and Anderson are a mismatch, as Hardy’s a moron and Anderson’s an asshole. Anderson raises his hands to that. He asks them what makes them think they can even step in the same ring as Beer Money at Slammiversary. Anderson asks why Roode’s hair is always frickin’ wet. He asks Roode why he’s wearing sunglasses indoors, as blind people and jackoffs only wear them indoors. Loud “You’re a Jackoff” chant. Storm laughs. He says Anderson’s Mr. Funny Man. Storm says he does stand up comedy too and then hits Anderson. Huge brawl in the ring ensues. Security comes in and hold them apart. They keep brawling as we head to commercial.

We’re back and the brawl is still going on. Hardy counters an irish whip by Storm, sending him into the guard rail. Hardy’s now beating Storm up. I don’t know where Anderson and Roode are. Hardy floors Storm with the clothesline and then moves the padding from the floor. He hiptosses Storm onto the concrete floor. We’re apparently going to have a match between these two.

Match 3 : Jeff Hardy vs James Storm

    • In the ring now as Storm brings Hardy in with that rope assisted DDT.
    • Pin but only two.
    • Storm starts choking Hardy in the corner.
    • Storm then hits Hardy with a huge boot from the outside.
    • Pin but only two. Sleeperhold by Storm.
    • Hardy fights out but runs into a back elbow.
    • Facebuster followed up by a Rock Bottom type maneuver from Storm.
    • Pin but again only two.
    • Storm grabs a chair from out of the crowd.
    • The ref takes it away from him.
    • Hardy counters out of a slam and hit’s the sitout jawbreaker.
    • Both guys are down as the ref starts the count. Both guys trade rights.
    • Storm runs right into a clothesline by Hardy.
    • Clothesline by Hardy ensue.
    • Chair assisted Poetry in Motion in the corner by Hardy.
    • Pin only two.
    • Twist of Fate coming up, but Strom counters but Hardy ducks a clothesline and hit’s the reverse sitout suplex.
    • Hardy goes to the top.
    • Storm split’s the legs at the top though.
    • Storm goes to the top and goes for a hurricanrana, but Hardy holds on.
    • Whisper in the Wind connects.
    • Pin but only two.
    • Storm holds onto the ropes as Hardy tries to bring him back in.
    • Storm spit’s the beer in Hardy’s face and here we go, Eye of the Storm connects.
    • He goes for the cover. 1…2…2.95435! Storm now grabs the chair.
    • Hardy ducks a shot and the chair bounces off the ropes and hits Storm in the face.
    • Twist of Fate! Swanton connects! Forget about it this ones done like dinner!
    • Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: Jeff Hardy

Match 4 : Robert Roode vs Mr. Anderson

    • With Hardys win, Roode surely wins this one or the air of suspense i.e. “Who’s gonna win?” at Slammiversary will be gone for good…..we’ll see.
    • Anderson power walks to the ring and we get things started off quickly.
    • Intense tie up to start.
    • Anderson ducks a right and hits one of his own.
    • Headlock by Roode.
    • Anderson pushes out but gets hit with a shoulder block.
    • Anderson avoids an elbow and locks in a headlock of his own.
    • Roode pushes out but gets hit with a shoulder block.
    • Anderson yells in Roode’s face.
    • Roode kicks him in the gut and hits him with the rights.
    • Anderson trips Roode into the ropes, and hits him with a running back elbow.
    • Roll up but Roode kicks out. Anderson chases Roode to the outside.
    • Anderson tries to get back in but the ref for some reason doesn’t let him.
    • Roode kicks the rope, crotching Anderson and follows up with a neck breaker.
    • He then rakes the back of Anderson.
    • Anderson starts to fight back but it’s not enough.
    • Roode starts choking Anderson in the ropes, and now with his boot.
    • Snapmare by Roode and he locks in a chin lock.
    • Anderson fights out with the rights.
    • Anderson counters a spinebuster, Roode counters a Mic Drop but gets hit with a backdrop.
    • Green Bay Plunge coming up, but Roode rakes the eyes.
    • Clothesline in the corner by Roode.
    • Boot in the corner by Anderson.
    • Sunset flip, almost botched, off the top, but Roode grabs the ropes and wins it.
    • Winner: Robert Roode
    • Post Match Anderson does his trademark call for the mic.
    • He says that any man can be beaten on any given day.
    • He just got beat again, by Bobby Roode nonetheless.
    • But the only way people can beat him is by using underhanded tomfoolery.
    • The only reason they have to do that is because he is no mere mortal, but he is… and the crowd shouts out “Mr. Anderson”.
    • Roode yells at Anderson, saying that all he does is talk.

We see Douglas Williams in the back. He says the X-Division is a disservice. In the UK, it’s about working down limbs and tying them up. He’s here to teach everyone a lesson. So everyone who tries to take that belt from him, they’re going to have to do it the old fashioned way, the English way.

We get a video package, highlighting the Wolfe/Abyss rivalry along with the Jordan/Terry rivalry.

Match 5 : Desmond Wolfe and Orlando Jordan vs TNA Global Champion Rob Terry and Abyss (w/ Chelsea

    • Jordan comes out with pasties of Terry on his chest.
    • He has some weird thing in his hand that looks like a dumbbell but I don’t think it is.

    • Wolfe and Abyss are gonna start things off.
    • Jordan hits Abyss, allowing Wolfe to take control.

    • He smiles and Wolfe starts yelling at him.
    • Chelsea then starts yelling at Chelsea for slapping him, allowing Abyss to attack him from behind.
    • Terry hiptosses Jordan back into the ring. Freak Buster! Forget about it.
    • Wait……wasn’t Abyss the freakin legal man?? How can Terry get the pin? Whatever folks!
    • Winners (allegedly): Abyss and Rob Terry

We get a recap of the Brother Ray/Jesse Neal rivalry.

We come back and we see Jesse Neal laid out in the back. Again with an ace of spades card on his chest……

    • Sting throws RVD into the steps before throwing him in the ring as Joe and Morgan do battle on the outside now.

    • Elbows in the corner by Morgan, and he stares at someone in the crowd.
    • He thinks it’s Hernandez.
    • Joe hits Morgan with an enzuigiri to the back of the head and MUSCLE BUSTER!
    • Rob hit’s Joe with a kick and plants Morgan with the Five Star! That’s all folks.
    • Winner: Rob Van Dam
    • Great match, will be interesting to see how they bring Super Mex back into the mix aswell.
    • Sting walks off. RVD celebrates and Joe gets in his face. Would love to see those two square off soon. With that we fade out. Solid show, see you next week guys!!
