Update on TNA iMPACT! UK broadcast future

Just thought i’d give a quick update on the TNA UK TV situation, given some new information that has come to light regarding the Sky rebranding that’s scheduled for January 2011.

UK Television and entertainment site, Digital Spy has some more news on the Sky network reshuffling after its aquisition of Virgin some months ago. Beginning in 2011, Sky Atlantic will launch exclusively on Sky. Sky has also announced that the Living channel will be rebranded as Sky Living from next year. As previously reported, Bravo, current home of TNA Impact, along with Channel One (formerly Virgin 1) will be phased out in the change due to the channels being too similar to Sky’s flagship Sky One channel.

So far, there has been no word by either Sky and TNA Entertainment on the fate of TNA Impact in the UK, however it’s likely given the stance of the press release given by Executive vice president of TNA Andy Barton that TNA are playing a wait a see approach, confident in the fact that they have a long term agreement (TNA signed a multi-year contract extension with Living TV group in January of this year.) which the incumbent, in this case Sky, will have to honor. This multi-year contract would also prevent TNA from shopping iMPACT! around to other channels in the interim which is likely why we have not heard of any scheduled negotiations. Appears we’ll have to wait and see what Sky’s approach is come January 2011.
