The Associated Press reports that TNA World Hvt. champion Jeff Hardy plans to plead guilty to drug charges at his next court hearing on January 20, 2011. The AP report, which was picked up by the Charlotte Observer newspaper, says the Moore county district attorney is making the claim that Hardy will plead guilty.

The report does not indicate what the punishment will be for a guilty plea. The report notes Hardy is the current World champion for “Total Nonstop Action Wrestling on the Spike TV cable channel.”

On January 4, 2010, Hardy was indicted on three separate felony and misdemeanor drug charges related to a raid on his house on September 11, 2009. An additional drug charge was tacked on when Hardy was indicted.

Hardy’s court case was sent to Superior Court in Moore County, N.C., where it has been continued each time since Jan. 4. Hardy’s next appearance on Jan. 20 will apparently lead to a punishment handed out.

Ray’s thoughts:

First off i’m not going to bash Jeff Hardy over this, like most of the IWC seems to revel in doing of late, judge not lest ye be judged! What a guy does in his own free time is none of my (or anyone elses for that matter) business. We can debate the drug use in wrestling or the validity of drug laws etc. all night – i won’t.

All i know is i happen to watch a TV show which Jeff happens to be big part of. He has been a tremendous performer and a great champion for the company. He has been a large part of the successful increases in house show attendance, merchandise sales and increased licensing revenue not to mention the increased exposure of the product here in the UK. The guy has been clean (alchohol included) for the last 10 months and has just become a father for the first time, it would be an absolutely travesty if he was to face a prison sentence. Personally, given the amount of delays in this case to date, and the unexpected guilty plea out of the blue – i’d bank on a deal already being done behind closed doors – Hardy will be convicted but without or at least a minor sentence.
