TNA/Universal Studios clamping down on TV Taping spoilers…

IMPACT Wrestling Zone - Orlando, Fl.

TNA has banned the use of any cell phone or mobile devices inside the IMPACT Zone. Obviously this will affect Live Taping Results that tend to be leaked during tapings. In fact, at last nights TV taping PWInsider correspondent John Benoit, who has been a semi-regular correspondent for TNA events as well as other events in the Orlando area, was ejected from the Impact Wrestling tapings. Benoit was ejected from the event by a TNA Producer and then walked off Universal property by an Orlando police officer.

It is believed John was requested not to use his cell phone and did so anyway, given the forewarnings i think TNA/Universal handled this correctly. Whilst i tend to post spoilers from other sources to the site, and the articles are popular,  i do agree that they do more harm than good to the product. However i’m not sure these measures will entirely solve the issue, though i guess its a start.

Bad move in my opinion. TNA needs all the press and publicity they can get at this point. Even if people are posting spoilers, at least they are posting about TNA. Without this, there will be even less buzz around it.

  2. TNA need to go to live shows!
Its the only way they will stop spoilers and as Todd put they need a buzz about them. This will give it to them!

  3. James Jolley says:

I think this is a good thing. There are so many internet sites that leak spoilers and either incorrectly attribute things to the wrong people. This also has the advantage of keeping the product fresh.

Also, would you expect to be given the chance to write spoilers if you were watching a film being produced?

  4. Superb news for those, like us, who have to avoid vast amounts of the Internet in fear of it being spoiled.

The only negative I can see here, is that it seems with this decision to implement this rule, that there’s no chance of them leaving Orlando any time soon.

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, they need to go live!

I think it just costs too much to go live and it’s not really in their best interest financially. We live in the DVR world now, and I doubt most people even watch the show when it airs anyway. I think they really need to get out of Universal Studios though. I lived in Orlando from 2004-2006 and I used to go down and watch the tapings quite regularly since it was free. You just have to put up with standing in line for an hour or two. It’s the same crowd in there every single week, mixed with a few tourists they happen to wander in. I liked a few of the shows I saw that they did in North Carolina and some other places. It seemed like a fresh crowd that didn’t start chants like “TURKEY LEG! TURKEY LEG!” every 5 minutes.

I don’t know what the answer is, but kicking people out that are giving your product attention and drawing interest to it isn’t the way. With that being said, I have talked to John a few times at the shows and the guy is pretty obnoxious. I can see him trying to sneaking around trying to get video. Even if you think it’s a bad idea, you should at least respect their rules and just the watch the show.
